Did you know?      Rear wheel drive

Now you may heard a lot of people saying rear wheel drive cars are the best for drifting games. Well, it is true. For many reasons, the rear wheel cars are the best for drifting, be it on amateur level or professional level. Here’s why you should go for your drifting games using a rear wheel drive.

Rear wheel drive as the name suggest it, only the rear wheel actually spins, the front wheels are only there to support the car and direct it. The real power and pushing force is from the rear wheels. Now why is that better for drifting games? That’s because rear wheel drive are naturally over steering types. They will lose traction pretty easily if you make a sharp turn. (Traction is the grip and the force on the wheel that keeps it in place). Therefore rear wheel drive cars is the easiest for drifting games. They tend to slide easier, the will slide even more if you accelerate while doing a sharp turn.

For a very simple example why, compare your car to a shopping cart, I’m sure you did that before, when you push a shopping cart, you are actually pushing it from behind, which makes your shopping cart technically a rear wheel drive. Now take a very sharp and quick turn into a wing, and while you are turning, push faster. You will notice that the back of your shopping will slide outward.  You will pretty much understand why rear wheel drive car are the best for drifting games from now. Just be careful to not knock anything down in the shelves.

The whole idea is to approach your turn with a medium speed and give a sharp quick turn and accelerate. The rear wheel drive will lose the traction and slide outward while you need to guide the car using only the front tires. When your rear tires are sliding outward, you need to put your front wheel in the opposite direction. For example, after you have turned sharply on the right, as you begin to drift, your front wheels must be turned towards the left to continue the drift. This is called the counter steer. Without doing it, you will literally do a 360 directly.

Now the counter steer has a limit, over counter steer will break your drift and move the car back into position, under counter steer will make your car keep turning. So you have to try out a little before doing it in an actual street.  Remember, drifting is very dangerous if not properly done. So please practice a lot in a wide open area before going for drifting games.
